Mexico City- Canon enters the scene of remote communication applications with Kokomo, a Virtual Reality platform that promises immersive video calls using the company’s cameras.
“With Kokomo, we’re leveraging Canon’s innovative spirit and heritage of high-quality imaging to enable people to have real, authentic interactions when they come together in virtual reality,” said Kazuto Ogawa, president and CEO of Canon USA.
The app is still under development and Canon shared few technical details, however the manufacturer said the app uses Canon cameras and imaging technology to create realistic representations of users and their environments.
In addition, the manufacturer mentioned that for the links it requires a Virtual Reality viewer and a compatible smartphone.
What the platform is looking for is that the user has the perception that he is in a physical place, for example in New York or Hawaii, and at the same time, he can meet the representation of another person to chat face to face.
At CES 2022, Canon demonstrated this platform with the new Canon RF5.2mm f/2.8L Dual Fisheye camera, which is distinguished by incorporating two lenses on the front to capture stereoscopic images that lead to a 3D effect. .
What is known so far is that the app will use spatial audio technology for more detailed listening and volumetric-enabled camera systems like the Canon EOS R5.
