What happened in the end?
Joseph Cooper is ejected from the tesseract (four-dimensional cube) and awakens in a Space Station built a very close distance from the wormhole. When the protagonist is reunited with his daughter, now elderly, he discovers that days passed for him, but it was decades for the rest.
The surprise could not be bigger when he finds out that she found the scientific solution to save humanity. After this, she decides to meet up with her mate Brand on the other side of the wormhole, who is trying to set up a new human colony on Edmunds’ inhabitable planet.
The tragic outcome that did not see the light
In screenwriter Jonathan Nolan’s original ending, the wormhole collapsed when Cooper tried to send information to his daughter. That is to say, the protagonist sacrificed himself so that his species does not face inevitable extinction.
Although that denouement fit better with the plot and was less risky from a scientific point of view, the director decided to stick with a happier one. If it was better or worse, the fans have the last vote.

controversy and criticism
“Interstellar” was a hit with critics and fans. “It embodies more of the exciting, thought-provoking and visually arresting moviegoers have come to expect from writer-director Christopher Nolan,” praised the Rotten Tomatoes review.
Despite this, its ending gave something to talk about due to its complexity and what could have been after revealing the original idea of the screenwriter. “She is at times pompous and at times naive,” noted The Guardian.
