In a solemn festive atmosphere that mixed modern technological influences and the scent of ancient history, Egypt reopened the 3,400-year-old archaeological road, which witnessed major processions that crossed it and is guarded by more than a thousand statues on both sides.
The ceremony included an artistic show that simulated some aspects of the ancient Egyptians’ celebration of the Opet Day, in which hundreds of Egyptian university students in pharaonic costumes participated, and President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and a number of government members and foreign and Arab ambassadors attended.
The celebration came a few months after Egypt organized a solemn procession through the streets of Cairo, to transport 22 royal mummies from the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir to the National Museum of Civilization in the Fustat area.

In a post after the ceremony, the embassy said: “I salute the organizers of the Luxor celebration, this wonderful event in one of the most ancient cultural sites in the world. The United States is proud of its partnership with Egypt to preserve and protect World Heritage sites for current and future generations, investing more than $100 million, and providing vital jobs for the country’s tourism sector.

As for European Union spokesman Luis Miguel Bueno, he expressed his admiration for the celebration, as he tweeted on his account on “Twitter”: “I am following, like many around the world, the opening ceremony of the new Road of Rams. Congratulations to the Mother of the World, Egypt.”
While the British newspaper “The Times” said that “the opening ceremony of the Rams Road, which is held in Egypt, competed with the processions of the Pharaohs 3,500 years ago.”
The British newspaper “Daily Mail” praised the celebration, saying that Egypt had unveiled what it described as a “sacred road” lined with thousands of statues, and was used as a procession route for the gods 3,000 years ago.

The Spanish newspaper, El Comercio, published a report on the ceremony, in which it said that Egypt “dazzled the world by opening the Rams Road, which is a huge project that will transform Luxor into an open museum that fascinates visitors, and has great cultural importance.”
