Interior begins the process to annul the ammunition purchase contract from an Israeli company

The Ministry of the Interior announced this Tuesday that it “has launched” the process to rescind the award to an Israeli company of a contract for the acquisition of ammunition for the Civil Guard and that it will exclude other companies in this country for the future while it lasts. the “armed conflict in the territory of Gaza”.

In a statement, the Ministry of the Interior has announced that it is beginning to terminate the contract hours after government partners such as IU asked Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska for explanations about this contract advanced by Cadena Ser.

These are “9 x 19 mm cartridges” for the Civil Guard according to a contract that, according to the Interior, was tendered on February 21, 2024. The award was made on October 21, 2024, and two of the three hired were from an Israeli company.

“The Spanish Government maintains the commitment of not selling weapons to the Israeli State since the armed conflict broke out in the territory of Gaza,” Interior added.

Regarding this case, the Interior explains that it is an ammunition acquisition and that the Ministry of the Interior “has initiated the administrative procedure to cancel said purchase.”

“Other Israeli companies will be excluded, as bidders, in other arms acquisition files that are currently being processed by the General Directorate of the Civil Guard,” he added. The federal coordinator of Izquierda Unida, Antonio Maíllo, had requested the resignation of the head of the Interior leadership or of the minister himself, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, after it became known that his ministry had made a purchase of 12 million bullets from a Israeli company for almost seven million euros, contravening the Defense decision not to purchase new Israeli weapons since the Hamas attacks of October 7, 2023.
