Eight people were slightly injured as a result of a 6.3-magnitude earthquake that struck Wednesday night in southwestern Japan, without causing a tsunami warning, according to what authorities reported Thursday.
The authorities said in a preliminary toll that all those injured suffered minor injuries, most of which were caused by falling objects, noting also that the material damage caused by the earthquake was very minimal.
The epicenter of the earthquake was located in a channel separating the islands of Kyushu and Shikoku, about 18 kilometers west of Awajima and at a depth of approximately 25 kilometers, according to the US Geological Survey.
For its part, the Japanese Meteorological Agency said that the magnitude of the earthquake reached 6.4, and its epicenter was located at a depth of 50 km.
