Consumer prices in Argentina registered a year-on-year increase of 64% in the last month of June, 3.3 percentage points above the variation registered in May, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (Indec) reported this Thursday (14). .
In the sixth month of the year, consumer prices grew 5.3% a month, up from 5.1% in May, but still well below the very high rates of 6% in April and 6.7% in March.
With these data, in the first half of the year Argentina accumulated inflation of 36.2%, bordering on the inflationary projection that the Alberto Fernández government had forecast for the entire year of 2022 in its agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), of between 38% and 48%, which it will no longer be able to fulfill.
Goods had a positive change of 5.2% last month compared to May, while services rose 5.5%, numbers that add up to 66% and 58.4%, respectively, in the interannual comparison.
Among the increases registered, the highlights were the categories of health (7.4%) and housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (6.8%), as well as the prices of alcoholic beverages and tobacco (6.7% ).
On the other hand, the increase in food and non-alcoholic beverages (4.6%) had the highest incidence in all regions of the neighboring country, with emphasis on vegetables together with meat and derivatives.
The only two categories with the smallest increase in the month were communication (0.4%) and education (2%).
The consumer price index in the country had accumulated a high of 50.9% last year, showing an acceleration in relation to the 36.1% verified in 2020.
The Central Bank of Argentina this month raised inflation expectations to 76% for this year and to 64.6% in 2023, a projection classified as optimistic by experts.
