Inflation in the Netherlands fell in May compared to a month earlier. This is reported by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS).
Annual inflation was 10.2 percent, compared to 11.2 percent in April. This means that inflation will remain at a high level, driven by increased energy prices and higher food prices.
Statistics Netherlands reports the figures using the European harmonized method, which was created in order to be able to properly compare the inflation data of different European countries. The European statistical office Eurostat will release figures on inflation in the eurozone later in the day.
Statistics Netherlands will later publish the monthly inflation figure according to its own calculation method. This includes keeping track of costs for housing, such as house rents. The European method does not take this into account. In April, this inflation was 9.6 percent compared to a year earlier, according to Statistics Netherlands.
