Industry, Istat data: production increases by 2% over the year, while the raw index falls by 1.1%
In October the index seasonally adjusted industrial production drops by 0.6% compared to September. According to Istat data, the increase on an annual basis is 2%, while the raw index returns to decline, which falls by 1.1% on 2020.
However, the National Statistical Institute notes that the comparison with the value of February 2020, month before the start of the health emergency, stay positive: the seasonally adjusted level of the October index is 0.7% higher.
In the average for the August-October quarter the level of production grew by 0.6% compared to the previous quarter. The seasonally adjusted index grows on a cyclical basis only for energy (+ 2.3%), while it decreases for intermediate goods (-0.8%), consumer goods (-0.9%) and capital goods ( -1.4%).
The more significant trend increases sign up for intermediate goods up by 3.4%, consumer goods which increased by 2.7% e energy (+ 1.8%). Capital goods decreased slightly (-0.1%).
THE sectors of economic activity that record the greatest tendential increases are the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+ 20.4%), the wood, paper and printing industry and the food, beverage and tobacco industries (+ 5.6% for both sectors) and the manufacture of machinery and equipment (+ 5%).
Trend downturns they are recorded in the manufacture of means of transport (-13.2%), in the mining activities (-7.5%), in the manufacture of computers and electronic products (-4.9%) and in other manufacturing industries (- 1.9%)
