Mexico.- They are unfortunate expressions those of the mayor of Culiacán, Jesús Estrada Ferreiro commented Balbina Flores, representative of Reporters Without Borders in MexicoFrance-based journalist advocacy organization.
The journalist and activist considered that above all because they come from an official who is obliged to have certain limitations when expressing himself to the media.
“It is a pity, the journalist that was mentioned is within his right to resort to convenient instances such as the local Human Rights Commission to make an exhortation and conduct himself with respect towards the media; These expressions should not be allowed to pass, because a bad precedent is being generated, it is unfortunate,” said Balbina Flores.
Estrada declared today: “Look, the newspaper or whoever brought out that bullshit is altering the context… don’t let those who write be fools.” This after rejecting a note published by El Debate this Wednesday where the Mayor’s statement on gender violence for he had said: “The woman encourages them to harm her because she does not pay attention to the recommendations”.

Regarding this, Balbina Flores of RSF said that this is happening as a reaction to the increasingly frequent lack of respect for journalistic practice by public officials in Mexico.
