US Permanent Representative to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield commented on the words of Russian President Vladimir Putin that Washington ignored the most important points for Moscow in proposals for security guarantees in Europe. Thomas-Greenfield said that the parties still continue discussions on a number of issues. Her words were broadcast on the TV channel MCNBC.
The US Ambassador did not agree that such words of Putin should be considered a threat: as the interviewer noted in her question, the Russian politician “ignored proposals on arms control.” “I think this is a sign that the discussions between us continue. We were glad to have a meeting of the UN Security Council yesterday to hear from Russian representatives what they are doing in Ukraine. The Council called on them to solve problems through diplomacy,” she said.

Thomas-Greenfield added that Washington will continue to defend Kiev’s position and demand that Moscow withdraw more than 100,000 troops from the borders. At the same time, the Russian authorities refute such information.
Putin spoke for the first time about Washington’s response to Moscow’s earlier proposals on security guarantees at a press conference following a meeting with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on February 1. According to the head of state, the Kremlin did not notice that the United States tried to take into account the three key requirements that were previously voiced by Russia in its initiative. In particular, we are talking about NATO’s refusal to further expand, the non-deployment of the alliance’s strike systems near Russian borders, and the return of the bloc’s military infrastructure in Europe to the state of 1997.
