Yandex commented on Alice's answer about Masha and the Bear, which frightens children
The Yandex company commented on the frightening response of the smart column “Alice” about Masha, the main character of the cartoon “Masha and the Bear”, reports RIA News. The company called the response an isolated incident.
Anna Mityanina, Commissioner for Children's Rights in St. Petersburg, drew attention to the situation at a meeting of the city's Legislative Assembly, noting the uncontrolled dissemination of a huge amount of different information.
Mityanina explained that children wonder why the main character of the cartoon, the girl Masha, lives in the forest alone without her parents, and they ask the smart speaker “Alice” about this. The device provided one of the answers published online. It said that Masha is the ghost of a girl, so she does not grow, and only animals can see her. Masha tortures the Bear because it was he who took the girl’s life.
According to the plot, there really are no adults in the cartoon, only Masha and in some episodes her sister, who arrived by train. The Bear, which has anthropomorphic characteristics, behaves like a parent towards the main character. He withstands the girl’s hooliganism and helps her cope with various troubles.
The Ombudsman emphasized that this is not funny. The Yandex company called the frightening response from the smart column “Alice” about Masha an isolated incident. “In isolated cases, “Alice” could answer incorrectly the question about the family of the main character of the cartoon “Masha and the Bear.” At the moment, she no longer responds like that,” the company commented.
Yandex recalled that the smart speaker learns new things in communication with the owner and tries to select suitable phrases for dialogue. If she doesn’t know the answer, then she looks for it in open sources. Parents were also urged to set a children's mode on the gadget to protect their child from inappropriate content.
At a meeting of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg, Mityanina also showed deputies a cartoon about the adventures of toilets with human heads. We are talking about the post-modern web series Skibidi Toilet Series, in which toilets wage a battle with camera-headed people. She prefaced the demonstration of the cartoon with a story about the popularity of the series among Russian children and expressed her concern about this fact.
