In the east of Germany, protests were held in Leipzig, several thousand participants opposed rising energy and food prices. This was announced on September 5 Suddeutsche Zeitung.
It is noted that the protests were organized by the Left Party and the far-right Alternative for Germany. The promotions began around 19:00 local time (20:00 Moscow time).
“Energy prices and inflation are a threat to democracy in our country,” said Sören Pelman, a spokesman for the Left Party parliamentary faction.
At the call of the left, from 3 to 4 thousand people came out, in total eight different actions were announced in the city.
The protesters demanded the lifting of anti-Russian sanctions, which provoked an increase in energy and food prices.
Earlier in the day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov commented on the pro-Russian rallies in Europe that took place over the weekend. He noted that it has become difficult for residents of European countries to live, they have questions for the leadership of their countries.
On the eve it was reported that in Germany, the inhabitants of Cologne took to the action in support of Russia. About 400 people took to the streets with Russian flags and demanded the lifting of EU sanctions against Russia, in addition, to launch Nord Stream 2 and stop the supply of weapons to Ukraine.
As the Bundestag deputy from the Left Party Sarah Wagenknecht said in an interview with the German portal t-online, the new third aid package from the German authorities will not help the country’s residents solve the problem of “explosive” prices for utilities, fuel and food. She noted that the bill for heating and hot water in an old single-family house with gas heating could reach €12,000 next year, and more than €5,000 in an ordinary apartment.
A few days earlier, on September 1, Mark Bernhard, deputy of the committee on energy and climate protection in the Bundestag from the Alternative for Germany party, said that large demonstrations could take place in September due to the energy crisis in Germany.
Western countries are faced with rising energy prices after the introduction of anti-Russian sanctions against the backdrop of a special operation carried out by Moscow since February 24 to protect the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR).
