France got off to an ambitious start in September last year with a fuel discount of no less than 30 cents. In mid-November, the discount went down to 10 cents and at the turn of the year the French government withdrew its hands from fuel prices. But fuel prices are still on the high side. That is why the French government is now handing out pocket money to refuel.
Not everyone is eligible for the 100 euros. The fuel subsidy is only for people with a lower income and you have to prove that you need the car to go to work. Those who live within cycling distance of their work and want to tour a bit at the weekend at the government’s expense are therefore out of luck. The 100 euros is simply deposited into the bank account.
Incidentally, people with an EV are also eligible for the 100 euros, as long as they meet the other conditions. Two- and three-wheelers also receive pocket money. For the time being, the subsidy appears to be a one-off. Perhaps if fuel prices remain high, another 100 euros will be distributed. A total of 1 billion euros has been budgeted for the measure.
