The virtual job in Roblox it could be the occupation of the future, and something in this strange sense is also moving on the part of Ikea, which has decided to hire players and pay them an hourly salary to “work” inside a virtual store on Roblox.
This is not a job open to everyone, indeed the selection will be decidedly complex: the DIY furniture giant intends to select only 10 people who will be included in the Ikea virtual store present within Roblox.
These 10 players will in effect be Ikea employees within Roblox and they will earn 14.80 euros per hour to operate in various sections of the virtual store, between the furniture showroom and the Bistro area, with the actual request to “help people choose furniture” or “serve meatballs”.
Not a bad contract, but with various doubtful points
Curiously, this is a sort of rather standard contract, considering that the €14.8 per hour corresponds to the London Living Wage established in the United Kingdom, higher than the national minimum in that country.
However, it will certainly not be easy to become part of the Ikea staff in Roblox.
To begin with, the main problem seems to be that of having to be resident in the United Kingdom to participate in the selection, which already narrows the circle of possible candidates, in addition to being at least 18 years old. In any case, it is curious to note that a dedicated site for staff recruitment to be applied inside the Roblox Ikea store.
The form required to take part in the selection also contains bizarre questions such as “How do you feel about being transformed into pixels”, which almost has a disturbing tone. Promotions and career opportunities are also foreseen, although it is not clear whether these are reflected in changes in salary.
Several elements remain rather unclear, such as the expected length of shifts, the length of the contract itself or other details about what you are actually required to do while working within Roblox.
In fact, even the store itself remains mysterious: Ikea is evidently preparing the launch of this virtual space in Roblox, perhaps the protagonist of a separate game in metaverse of the famous title, but we don’t know what it consists of. The community, moreover, has already expressed doubts about how this could affect 3008, a famous Roblox game which is clearly a parody of Ikea.
