As fans will remember, Palpatine supposedly dies in “Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi” at the hands of Darth Vader himself, who throws him into the void. At least the public believed that was his demise for several years.
“It was good to know he wasn’t dead. Well, he wouldn’t be, would he? Many people said: ‘You can’t bring him back, he was dead! Did you see that drop? How could anyone survive that?’ Excuse me… he is the emperor of the universe. In any case, nobody is going to tell me that I would not have had a plan bin case someone, as unlikely as he may have thought, managed to semi-destroy it,” McDiarmid explained.

Likewise, the actor also argued that the surgeon androids (the same ones that intervene Anakin Skywalker in “Revenge of the Sith”) could have easily cured him.
“And of course, had the best team of surgeons, they were very small but very thorough, maybe you remember them from the movie. And he had the best that money could buy, the best that could be produced. And he also had this wonderful galactic wheelchair, which was a huge plus,” he added.
