VIENNA (Reuters) – The director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), linked to the United Nations (UN), Rafael Grossi, told the agency’s board of governors on Wednesday that the negotiations he had carried out in Tehran this week over Iran’s nuclear program proved inconclusive.
“On November 23, 2021, I had meetings in Tehran with the Vice President of Iran and head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, His Excellency Mohammad Eslami, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, His Excellency Hossein Amir-Abdollahian” , Grossi said in a statement to the 35-nation board of governors ahead of their quarterly meeting.
“Despite my best efforts, these extensive negotiations and deliberations to address Iran’s outstanding safeguards issues, detailed in the two reports, have proved inconclusive,” he said, referring to recently issued reports by the agency.
