Federal agents are there enough evidence to indict Hunter Biden, the son of the American president, for tax crimes and related to the purchase of a weapon. The Washington Post writes, citing informed sources, recalling that Attorney General Merrick Garland at the time of his inauguration in the Justice Department had confirmed the Delware attorney chosen at the time of the administration to lead the case on the son of the Democratic president whose business has been the target of allegations by Donald Trump and his allies for years.
The investigation into Biden’s second son was launched in 2018, and the various allegations against the businessman, with several ties in hot countries abroad, including China and Ukraine, were at the center of the campaign to Trump’s re-election. After all, Hunter’s role in the Ukrainian company Burisma had been at the center of the pressure that Trump put on the then newly installed Volodymyr Zelensky in the complex Kievgate affair that led to Trump’s first impeachment in 2019.
According to sources cited by the Post, the agents determined a few months ago that they had obtained sufficient evidence against Hunter. But it is up to Attorney David Weiss to decide whether to actually indict Biden’s son for tax offenses and for misrepresenting the purchase of a weapon. Given the sensitivity of the case, Garland has assured that there will be no political interference and that he will leave Weiss full supervision.
Hunter Biden’s attorney, Chris Clark, accused investigators of the leak, noting that “it is a federal offense to disclose information about a grand jury investigation like this one.” And that it is not the task of the agents to decide on the charges “but of the prosecutors, who must work without pressure, without being rushed or criticized”.
