In Rome they demanded an investigation into the mass demonstration of the fascist salute
A scandal erupted in Italy after the publication of a video showing hundreds of men demonstrating the fascist salute during a rally in the Italian capital to mark the anniversary of the murder of three neo-fascists. Opposition parties have already demanded an investigation, reports Reuters.
The event took place on the 46th anniversary of the day two Italians were allegedly killed by far-left militants and a third by police amid the ensuing unrest. The rallies are held annually, but this time politicians drew attention to the illegality of pro-fascist sentiment, pointing out that the post-war Italian constitution prohibits the reorganization of Mussolini's dissolved fascist party. It is noted that far-right groups are circumventing the ban by giving their organizations new names.
“These are people of different origins, individualists, extra-parliamentary organizations. They have nothing in common with the Brothers of Italy, – quoted La Repubblica of the representative of the right-wing party, from which the current Prime Minister George Meloni was nominated. She herself did not comment on the rally, which is why she came under criticism from the opposition.
Meloni, who came to power as a critic of a global ideology that fears traditional family values because they constitute human identity, was previously criticized for her far-right sympathies in her youth. At the same time, even before becoming prime minister, she stated that in her party there is “no place” for “nostalgia for fascism, racism or anti-Semitism.”
