The meeting, which will revolve around the mystery of the passage of the Prayer in the Garden, will have Our Father Jesus Nazarene as the host entity
The Brotherhood of Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno de Murcia will host the sixteenth edition of the National Congress of Brotherhoods and Brotherhoods of Prayer in the Garden -also called the Getsemaní Brotherhood-, which will bring together in the capital of Segura some three hundred devotees from throughout Spain from Thursday 20 to Sunday 23 October. The church of Jesús, headquarters of what is known as the brotherhood of the Salzillos, as well as the museum dedicated to the Murcian sculptor, will be the main locations where the religious event will take place, for which a complete program of events has been prepared. An extraordinary procession stands out in which the passage of the Prayer in the Garden of the Murcian image maker Francisco Salzillo will tour the city on Saturday, October 22.
“It is the first time that the congress will be held in Murcia and it is an honor as well as a great responsibility,” said Emilio Llamas, president of the Brotherhood of Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno, which has 3,500 brothers. “It will be a space of coexistence and brotherhood among brothers in which we will renew the evangelizing commitment by deepening the mystery of Jesus in Gethsemane.”
The Paraninfo of the University of Murcia (UMU), located on the La Merced campus, will host the inauguration of the congress on Friday 21 -as well as several presentations-, while the Cathedral will be the place where the finishing touch will be on Sunday 23 with a mass to be officiated by the Bishop of the Diocese of Cartagena, José Manuel Lorca Planes.
“It is a congress with a long journey that is held every two years and that we had planned for last year, but it was postponed due to health restrictions. For us it is very important and exciting to be the hosts and we are making a great effort so that those who visit us take a good image of our brotherhood, the city and the entire Region, “explained Emilio Llamas.
Tapa tour and gala dinner
Seville, Granada, Valladolid and Córdoba are some of the destinations of origin of the brothers who will attend the congress, whose honorary presidency has been accepted by King Felipe VI.
Beyond its religious nature, the event will incorporate different cultural visits to the Murcian capital in which the attending brothers will be able to enjoy the typical gastronomy with a tapas route and a gala dinner, they indicate from the organization.
