HS Turku | Kai-Erik Nuutinen paid 150 euros for a cheap brand of energy drink can – “Roughest ever”

Kai-Erik Nuutinen justifies the purchase decision with the legend of the ES energy drink and the fact that the proceeds are directed to youth band activities.

There it’s nothing strange that a 20-year-old buys an energy drink in Pori on a Monday afternoon.

Instead, he pays 149.15 euros for his purchase and has driven all the way from Turku to buy a can.

However, it’s not just any energy drink can. Lives in Turku Kai-Erik Nuutinen traveled to Pori to buy the “original recipe” ES or Euro Shopper brand energy drink. The recipe changed in July 2022, and it is already difficult to find drinks made in the old way.

“This is the hardest purchase ever,” Nuutinen laughs.

He reportedly found Finland’s most expensive ES through social media on Friday evening, October 14.

“The first thought was, who the hell would buy something like this. Then I realized that you can always get more money, but this kind of opportunity only comes once in a lifetime.”

Kai-Erik Nuutinen filmed material for social media about buying an ES can with his friends. Nuutis posing next to the showcase was photographed by Alexander Zewi.

Thought selling an exceptionally priced ES was born when a shopkeeper at Pori’s K-Supermarket Antinkatu Jonatan Jarkia found a showcase and a red carpet in the store’s warehouse.

“I thought it would be fun to sell Finland’s most expensive ES made with the original recipe,” says Jarkia.

Old-time ES could be found with a couple of phone calls. Jarkia wanted to direct the proceeds to a local youth hobby activity chosen by the buyer.

A hundred times the price seemed like a good joke. However, the can was sold in a few hours, and now Jarkia states that she could have asked for more.

“The case has received a lot of publicity. Especially when the proceeds go to a good cause, it would have sold even at a higher price,” says Jarkia.

Nuutinen chose the Pori youth workshop’s band workshop as the donation target.

“The price didn’t seem bad when the proceeds go to the benefit of young people. I’m in the music industry myself and I believe in band activities. It keeps away from evil.”

Kai-Erik Nuutinen bought a 149.15 euro can of ES on Monday, October 17. K-Supermarket Antinkatu’s industrial manager Jesse Siuro was amused that the buyer had come all the way from Turku.

To Finland the new recipe of the drink, which arrived in 2008 and almost gained a cult reputation among the youth of the 2010s, contains less sugar and salt than before. In addition to the calorie count, sales of the drink have also dropped significantly.

“There has been a lot of feedback about the recipe change. Kesko is investigating whether it would be possible to put the older recipe back on sale,” K-Supermarket Antinkatu industrial manager Jesse Siuro tells.

So the old ES may still return to store shelves.

Siuro thinks that it is still possible to find the drink made with the original recipe in larger K-chain stores, which have bought full stocks before the recipe changed. The old eeaces on Antinkatu were already sold out in April.

“These are hardly easy to find in the Pori region.”

Bargain was made at K-Supermarket Antinkattu on Monday afternoon, October 17. On top of the store, Nuutinen got a showcase and a red carpet.

Although the original ES is a rare treat these days, the can Nuutinen bought is not drinkable.

“It stays in a nice display case. I would like to taste a little, but this ES still remains undrinkable.”

On top of the shop, Kai-Erik Nuutinen got a red carpet and a showcase where the precious ES can was for sale. Friends Alexander Zewi and Miska Merikukka left Turku for a shopping trip.
