Places that are home, refuge and something more. No matter how many years and centuries pass, the home has been, is and will be a fundamental piece in our lives. IKEA and the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum They have promoted a historical and artistic journey that shows the evolution of domestic spaces from the 15th century to the present. ‘Ikea and the art of the home: design for a better everyday life’ will be open to the public until January 6, 2025.
A historical tour of homes
The experience starts with a tour of 16 masterpieces from the museum’s permanent collection, such as The vase by Hans Memling or The Revolving House by Paul Klee, emblem of the exhibition. All of them, as a window to the past, they invite us to reflect about how social, economic and cultural changes have influenced its transformation over time.
The tour culminates with the exhibition that the Swedish brand has prepared at the Rodin roomin which IKEA opens the doors of its history and delves into the values that have accompanied it since its foundation in 1943: function, form, quality, sustainability and accessibility.

Furthermore, the exhibition also makes us participate in a visual game of equivalences between paintings and designs of the Swedish brand, in addition to being able to see the evolution of the covers of the IKEA catalogs and read the manifesto of its democratic design.
