Arrived Luca De Meo at the helm, Renault has already begun to brush up on its archives with the firm intention of exploiting a certain heritage sentiment to relaunch its future list. Reason why the Renaulution started with two electric cars inspired by the past, the Renault 5 (already shown as a concept) and the model 4ever, which obviously refers to the best-selling ‘4’ produced from 1961 to 1994.
However, the electric 4ever will not be a simple historical reinterpretation of the ‘grandmother’, that whoever has a certain age has certainly seen around with its humble lines, certainly not premium. Instead, it will be a compact crossover, based on the platform of the new Renault 5. And it could cost more than the latter, definitively removing it from the shoes of the tireless worker to give it a more chic tone.
The 4ever EV will benefit from a battery technology (nickel, manganese, cobalt materials) capable of reducing the cost of more compact electric cars, a real wall that is very difficult to cross that holds back buyers interested in new cars. Thanks to the new CMF-BEV platform it will be possible to reduce the cost of the new 5 EV by 33% compared to the Zoe, which should be similar in size. The latter will be discontinued in 2024.
Thanks to the official teasers shown by the Lozenge, it is known that the front will be clearly retro, with a square panel that will collect round brackets at the headlights. The profile will have no particular distinctive signs, if not a rather short front hood. From the original Renault 4 it will certainly not take the almost vertical windshield: the designers of the French house will opt for more modern shapes. Renault has also confirmed an electric commercial vehicle, which will likely share most of its components with the 4ever, inspired by the Renault 4 Furgonette. Another important detail is the lack of design connection with the current or contemporary cars of the brand: in the case of models inspired by the history of Renault, the stylistic choices will be totally independent.
