An official delegation from the House of Wisdom in Sharjah visited the British National Library with the aim of exchanging best practices and discussing ways to enhance cultural cooperation and dialogue between the two sides. Marwa Al-Aqroubi, director of the House of Wisdom and the House of Wisdom delegation, was received by Dr. Luisa Elena Mingoni, Head of the Asian and African Collections Department, and Danielle Lew, Curator of Arab Collections at the British Library.
On the depth of the cultural ties that unite Sharjah and London and the importance of the visit and the exchange of knowledge, Marwa Al-Aqroubi said: “The House of Wisdom” and the “British Library” converge in endeavors and goals. We look forward to improving the lives of present and future generations through literature, art and culture, and providing space for readers. To discover human values and learn about world cultures. She added: The visit was an opportunity to deepen the knowledge of the English cultural movement about the cultural and civilizational project led by the Emirate of Sharjah under the directives and visions of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, where we reviewed the experience of the House of Wisdom and its success in attracting thousands of visitors in less than a year. We discussed the horizons of expanding the areas of joint work at the level of providing knowledge content and facilitating access to it for readers, and opportunities to benefit from contemporary technology options in archiving, research and documentation.

It is noteworthy that the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) developed the “House of Wisdom” project in celebration of the Emirate of Sharjah being named World Book Capital 2019 by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The House of Wisdom was shortlisted for the Library of the Year award in the International Excellence Awards 2022 organized by the London International Book Fair this April.
