Mexico City- After showing little clues, Honor finally announced the global launch of the Honor Magic V, its first 5G folding smartphone that integrates the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor.
Thanks to its waterdrop floating hinge, as described by Honor, the smartphone can fold its main screen, which extends to 7.9 inches when unfolded. According to Honor, the hinge was designed to withstand up to 200,000 openings.
The external OLED screen has a curved design and measures 6.45 inches, with an aspect ratio of 21.3:9. It has a 120Hz refresh rate, 2560 x 1080 pixel resolution, and HDR10+.
According to Honor, the Honor Magic V’s displays support 100 percent DCI-P3 color gamut to deliver up to 1.7 billion colors.
The screen refresh rate reaches up to 120Hz, to deliver smoother animations on your screen.
In addition, it will be the first folding smartphone to receive IMAX Enhanced certification on its main screen.
To deliver a more immersive experience, Magic V boasts a symmetrical stereo speaker system, with DTS:X Ultra Technology, an audio algorithm that delivers surround-quality sound.
The device was made from high-strength titanium, liquid zirconium metals, and high-strength carbon fibers that reduce the density of the device, making it extremely lightweight yet strong, Honor claims.
In terms of performance, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset supports the 5G network and integrates the Adreno GPU, which would increase GPU performance by 30 percent compared to the previous generation.
The connectivity would also offer better performance on WiFi and cellular networks, as it is compatible with the new Link Turbo X, which promises high download speeds.
Honor Magic V will be available with 12GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB of storage. It will run with a layer of Magic UI 6.0, based on Android 12.
With this layer, the smartphone supports features such as Magic Live, which is context-aware and performs profile prediction and insight graph to learn from user habits and behavior to deliver personalized suggestions such as travel reminders.
The smartphone will also support the Multi Window tool, which will allow you to split the screen into multiple windows to use the smartphone as a tablet. With the AI Smart system, Honor Magic V automatically detects and recommends Multi-Window compatible content.
To keep the device performing optimally, it incorporates an intelligent cooling system comprising the latest generation of graphene and an artificial intelligence (AI) thermal management system to cool the phone effectively.
In the photographic section, Honor Magic V boasts a set of cameras powered by AI, with a 50MP wide-angle main camera, a 50MP Spectrum Enhanced camera and a 50MP ultra-wide angle with a 122-degree field of view.
Both screens, both the main and the exterior, integrate 42MP cameras.
As for energy, the flexible smartphone has a 4,750 mAh dual battery management system, which promises to maintain good performance without wasting energy. In addition, it has support for the 66W Honor SuperCharge fast charge, so in 15 minutes half of its capacity would be filled.
“Honor has a strong ambition to become the highest performing smartphone brand in the premium foldable market and we are confident that our first foldable design will be very competitive compared to existing models,” said George Zhao, CEO of Honor. .
Price and availability The flexible smartphone Honor Magic V will be available in China from January 18 in black, space silver and burnt orange colors, with a price of 10 thousand yuan (almost 32 thousand pesos) for the version with 256GB of storage and 11 thousand yuan. (a little more than 35 thousand pesos) for the 512GB version.
For now, Honor has not confirmed if the smartphone will arrive in other markets later.
