Is called Carmen Sagrera the third model in the electric hypercar range created by Hispano Suiza to celebrate the 120th anniversary of the brand. A monster equipped with a new design but above all that incorporates the second generation of batteries with a capacity of 103 kWh “developed and produced entirely in the Hispano Suiza factories in Montmeló, Barcelona”, as underlined by the Technical Director of Hispano Suiza Juan Fernández.
Hispano Suiza Carmen Sagrera, a new drum set
There new battery represents a significant step forward in terms of performance. It uses state-of-the-art lithium-ion cell modules: a total of 15 modules containing 24 cells each, for a total of 360. Despite this it weighs only 612 kg and can operate with a maximum voltage exceeding 750 VDC. The increase in battery capacity from 80 kWh to 103 kWh results in an optimization of energy density, allowing more energy to be stored in the same volume. This is reflected in an improvement in range of approximately 100 km according to the WLTP cycle, bringing the maximum range to 480 km. The Carmen Sagrera also features a new lighter and less complex cooling system, made with more sustainable materials. “This translates into more efficient temperature control and lower energy consumption,” adds Fernández. Furthermore, its central T-shaped layout helps to optimize the car’s weight distribution and dynamic performance.
Hispano Suiza Carmen Sagrera: the design
The design of the front has undergone a clear evolution starting from the grille, now with a sharper shape, a clear homage to the muzzle of some Hispano Suiza Alfonso XIII from the early years of the last century. The bonnet air intakes have also been redesigned, and now offer a more fluid style in harmony with the rear ones, a change that is not only aesthetic but also functional. However, it is in the rear where you can see the main advances in terms of design and aerodynamics, thanks to the addition of a large rear wing in the shape of stork wings, in homage to the Hispano Suiza logo. “The team has worked to preserve the sporting heritage that has always distinguished our vehicles, taking inspiration from iconic designs such as the Alfonso XIII and the original Gentleman Driver concept,” explains Francesc Arenas, head of design at Hispano Suiza. “I dare say that with the Sagrera we have perfected the concept of sportsmanship. This model not only perpetuates our tradition of excellence and lays the foundation for our design line, but also fulfills the wishes of many of our customers.”
Hispano Suiza Carmen Sagrera: interior and performance
As for the interior, the center console and infotainment system have been reworked in tune with the brand’s color palette. The Alcantara upholstery is enriched with black and red leather details, while the multimedia system offers comprehensive connectivity options allowing you to personalize your welcome message. La Sagrera is equipped with four engines of 205 kW (approximately 275 HP) each, for a combined power of 1,100 HP and a torque of 1,160 Nm in its maximum performance configuration. The acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h speaks for itself: 2.6 seconds. These axial flux permanent magnet motors are arranged in series, with two units on the left and two on the right. The transmission transfers power to the rear axle and integrates a virtual limited-slip differential to maximize performance on the track and efficiently transmit the considerable torque to the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tires. These tires are the result of a direct collaboration with the technical center Michelin and feature graphics inspired by the storks and mosaics of Antonio Gaudí, adding a touch of uniqueness and exclusivity to the vehicle.
Hispano Suiza Carmen Sagrera: suspensions
The suspensions were designed based on multiple dynamic simulations, with the aim of achieving the performance of a racing car. In detail, both on the front and rear axles, deformable parallelogram suspensions have been adopted with shock absorbers adjustable for compression and rebound, and coil springs adjustable in hardness and height. This system is complemented by an anti-roll bar that connects the two sides. The braking system has also been improved, with monobloc calipers for greater rigidity. Furthermore, lightening work has been carried out on each caliper, reducing its weight by 500 g.
Hispano Suiza Carmen Sagrera: the price
Such beauty and power obviously could not have popular national prices. For the only 24 copies that will be produced, and for which it is possible to choose between 3 models, namely Carmen, Carmen Boulogne and Carmen Sagrera, we are talking about 2.5 million euros. “The new Hispano Suiza Carmen Sagrera not only confirms, but demonstrates our intentions in many ways: it is the fruit of constant evolution,” he explains Sergio Martínez Campos, CEO of Hispano Suiza. “With it we lay the foundations for the future design of Hispano Suiza, both in the exterior and in the new interior. La Sagrera redefines the concept of Gentleman Driver for electric hypercars with the new generation of the battery pack (produced internally, among other things) which allows it to reach a range of 480 km. It also unites us with our sporting past, and completes the Carmen range born in 2019, with style and sportiness. The Hispano Suiza stork flies higher than ever.”
