Vettel among the transfer rumors
Even in the days before the Japanese Grand Prix, there was no shortage of discussions in the world of Formula 1 on the list of potential candidates for the role of Lewis Hamilton's replacement in Mercedes from the 2025 season. In addition to Max Verstappen, who represents the most coveted target of team principal Toto Wolff, another top-tier profile has also re-emerged, but he retired in 2022 with four world titles in his pocket: Sebastian Vettel.
The hypothesis of return
After carrying out a test with the Porsche 963 in Spain, rumors about a possible return to F1 for the former Ferrari driver have increased considerably, with Mercedes indicated as one of the teams most open (but not the only one) to a sensational return. For the moment these are just rumours, but who would advise the Brackley-based company to bet on the German is another champion like Damon Hill.
Why Mercedes shouldn't focus on Vettel
The Briton, on top of the world in 1996, then focused on the possibility of Vettel in Mercedes, explaining to F1 Show all the particular reasons why the Anglo-German team should not focus on the man who won four consecutive world titles since 2010 as of 2013: “He shone for a very intense period, then something happened – has explained – it faded and stopped. I no longer saw the form of the young Vettel who was dominant. At the beginning of his career it was fantastic and then when he had difficulties with the Ferrari and things like that, it became a bit of a job for him. So, as team principal, would you risk letting him get back into shape? Frankly I wouldn't“.
