The esplanade of Heroes of Cavite, between the monument and the bastion of the wall of Carlos III adjoining the former military government, will no longer host trade fairs or any other type, as confirmed by the Councilor for Commerce, Manuel Padín, in the yesterday’s meeting. To celebrate the Outlet Fair, in October, some alternatives are weighed. The Royal Scale, between the mast of the Spanish flag and the sculpture ‘El Zulo’ is under construction now. It is possible that these works will not be finished in the autumn, so the municipal technicians are considering the possibility of setting up stalls selling clothes and accessories in the Plaza de Juan XXIII
The reason for avoiding the Héroes de Cavite esplanade is that the Ministry of Culture has initiated several files due to the visual affection that the booths represent for the protected environment as BIC (good of cultural interest) that form the Wall, the Plaza itself and the Town Hall. The legislation on heritage preservation, whose control corresponds to the Autonomous Community, establishes an environment in which this type of installation cannot be authorized.
The last event that was the subject of a file by the Culture administration took place a couple of weeks ago, when the City Council authorized a fair at the Catholic University of Murcia (UCAM) for several days.
Not only the Department of Commerce will have to dispense with this area for its initiatives. The same will happen with other fairs that depend on those of Culture, Education and Social Services. The Book Fair, scheduled for the month of April, is scheduled to be installed in the Plaza de España, although there are still some fringes to close.
From Culture they have already issued warnings during the past year, with several unfavorable opinions for the celebration of events in Heroes of Cavite using removable metal and wood booths, as well as chemical toilets. However, the City Council has given some authorization, already in 2022. Yesterday, Padín reported that this has ended and asked the merchants’ associations to help him plan, in each case, the most favorable alternatives.
