Arriving home, Ayde found the logo on Google. It turned out that this is the symbol of the Maine Department of Transportation. The Norwegian contacted representatives of the department through social networks. He wrote that he was surprised and impressed by how long the helmet sailed across the ocean. The distance between Maine and the place where the helmet was found is 5.3 thousand kilometers.
The department noted that they do not know how the helmet got to Norway, but are glad that they now have a new pen pal.
A department spokesman said the department would not ask the man to return the find and plans to send him gifts.
Earlier it was reported that a resident of the American city of New Bedford, Massachusetts, considered his missing helmet, which was found by a woman from Portugal on the island of San Miguel, on the other side of the world, a gift from his deceased son. It turned out that the son of a man who later committed suicide lost his helmet in 2014: it fell into the water while he was working in the US city of New Bedford, Massachusetts.
