The Spanish capital is once again the epicenter of mixed martial arts (MMA) at the national level. This time, it hosts WAR 4, an event organized by Agustín and Jorge Climent, Ilia Topuria coaches. In addition to being one of the best cards ever made in Spain, the finishing touch will be Hecher Sosa (10-1). This is undoubtedly the Spaniard who is closest to entering the UFC, the largest promoter of the sport.
In fact, the canary has confessed that, on several occasions, he received a call from Dana White’s company to come as a replacement on short notice. What’s more, he had also been informed that if someone from the bantamweight at the last UFC Macau event did not fight, he would have entered the fight directly. However, the opportunity has not yet arisen.
Be that as it may, what supports Sosa’s entry into the UFC is his great journey in the sport. Since his time as an amateur, the man from Lanzarote achieved great triumphs. remained three-time champion of Spainand at the international level, he managed to be third in the IMMAF world championship in 2018, and in Europe in 2019. That same year he was able to participate in the IMMAF African championship, obtaining victory.
Already as a professional, The Guanche Warrior (nickname by which Hecher Sosa is known), achieved seven victories and only one defeat between Spanish territory and the Swedish promoter FCR. It was in this company where the champion belt could be placed in February 2024. Because FCR was broadcast by UFC Fight Pass (UFC’s own viewing platform), Sosa I already had practically one foot in the UFC.
However, the final call did not happen. For this reason, the Spaniard decided to stay active and look for completions, in order to leave the American company without excuses. In May he submitted Dayvison Silva, and in September he knocked out Douglas Felipe in the first round. In Sosa’s situation, any other fighter would have decided to wait for the UFC so as not to risk compromising his record, but not Hecher. This one wants to stay active to feed his family.
His next fight at WAR 4 will be fourth in the same yearan activity that few can match. Despite coming well, with good performances and a great state of form, a small setback could throw away all the work done to enter the UFC. Therefore, his duel against Roger Blanqué at the Caja Mágica in Madrid continues to represent a great risk for which Sosa will have to go to the one hundred percent.
