Up to 32 vehicles from Cadaqués (Girona) have been affected by the rains this Friday morning in the Girona regions of Alt and Baix Empordà, as they were swept away by the river that crosses the municipality.
This was indicated by the mayor of the town, Pia Serinyana, in statements on Catalunya Ràdio, where she explained that the point of maximum intensity has been between 2 and 3 hours and that at this time the river continues to go down, although not as it went down at that time.
Regarding cars, he assured that the council had already warned that parking in the area was prohibited: “We had the alert that had come to us from Cecat (Operational Coordination Center of Catalonia), but people He has parked the cars and the water has carried them away“.
He has also indicated that, for the moment, there is no notice of the Generalitat Firefighters, who have checked the accident vehicles, or of the Mossos d’Esquadra, if any person may have been affected.
The first mayor of Girona has reported that in Cadaqués “it hasn’t rained that much either”but the intense rains have been focused on the Pení, the mountain next to the municipality, which has dumped all the water into the stream that runs through it.
Two fire crews have moved to the scene. This has been the only intervention of the firefighters in that region due to the storms last morning, although in the neighboring Baix Empordà they have received eight calls since 3:00 a.m., mostly due to flooding in private homes, with no injuries.
Civil Protection has reported that it keeps the pre-alert of the flood emergency plan, Inuncat, activated in the Alt and Baix Empordà, due to observation and accumulation of rain, which can reach 100 liters per square meter in 24 hours.
The rains will be concentrated this Friday in Catalonia, on a day in which strong gusts of wind will be recorded in Cádiz, according to the prediction of the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET). Specifically, Gerona will be in orange notice due to intense rains that could reach 40 l/m2 in less than an hour in the Ampurdán area and 100 l/m2 have accumulated in 12 hours. The forecast is that they will subside throughout the morning.
