Methodological complexity, lack of time, lack of economic resources, difficulty in collaborating with other scientific societies seem to be the most frequent obstacles encountered by medical-scientific societies in the development of guidelines and good clinical practices. This is what emerges from the workshop 'Guidelines, good healthcare practices', which preceded the opening of the conference 'From multidisciplinarity to single prescription', the first stage of the General States for the '40th anniversary of Fism, the Italian Federation of medical-scientific societies ' in Rome.
At the meeting – reports a note – Nino Cartabellotta, president of the Gimbe Foundation, illustrated the methodology for the development of guidelines and best practices pursuant to law 24/2017 and the standards adopted by the Higher Institute of Health, noting the barriers that slow down its production and adoption, but also highlighting the value and limitations of good clinical-care practices that could be integrated into the update of the standard. Nicoletta Gandolfo, elected president of Sirm (Italian Society of Medical and Interventional Radiology) 2025-2026, as well as delegate to support the Technical Table for the guidelines at the ISS, reported on the work underway by the Commission and on the criteria for priorities that are adopted for the choice of the formulation of the guidelines. The president of Fism, Loreto Gesualdo, then led the debate between speakers and participants from the scientific societies.
With a view to an increasingly broad institutional collaboration, Gesualdo and Cartabellotta confirmed to the president of the ISS Rocco Bellantone, who spoke at the round table on Dm70 and Dm77, that the results of the survey conducted on the guidelines and good clinical practices will be made available of the Higher Institute of Health with a view to increasingly broad institutional collaboration.
