“Without a caregiver, most patients with severely disabling diseases would be left to fend for themselves in our country. For this reason, for many years, attempts have been made, by various legislatures, to promote and approve a bipartisan law on caregivers, a pillar of care for those affected by Alzheimer’s disease, for patients with dementia, mental health problems and more”. This is what the Democratic Party senator Beatrice Lorenzin, co-president of the Intergroup for Neuroscience and Alzheimer’s, told Adnkronos Salute, on the sidelines of the press conference for the tenth anniversary of the foundation of Airalzh – Italian Alzheimer’s Research Association, today in Rome at the Ministry of Health, on the eve of World Alzheimer’s Day, which is celebrated every year on September 21.
“There is no point in denying it: the care and treatment of a person with any pathology is the responsibility of families, especially women – Lorenzin points out – In addition to a law, however, it is necessary to build a network also from an economic financial point of view that supports this pillar of our social welfare system. As an Intergroup in Parliament we are working on a shared text, therefore totally bipartisan, to give concrete support to families and caregivers in a structured way in our country”.
