With “Spedali di Brescia” we were able to “make a specific assessment of the postural risk linked to our sessions. We involved the workers’ representatives and the workers themselves, the people who are busy every day working on the line, on that type of bus, on that type of route, to identify any cases to improve and then bring to the benefit of the working community ”. This was said by Francesca Santagata, HSE and RSPP manager of Arriva Italia, during the panel ‘Safety and prevention in the world of transport’ at the event ‘Prevention in travel. #piùmovimentomenotrombosi’, organized today in Milan by the Lombardy Region in collaboration with the Vincere la Trombosi association.
“For the health and safety at work aspect, the word prevention is truly fundamental – added Santagata – It is not easy to find drivers at the moment, the prevention of their health has paradoxically become even more important than it obviously already was”. Bus drivers incur risks related to static posture. “The European Agency for Health and Safety at Work – he continued – also issued a specific document in 2021 on static postures, working postures that can lead to a series of problems in workers’ health. Over the last ten years, seat construction techniques have been developed to ensure driver comfort and ergonomics. Within the tender specifications for the purchase of buses, the session becomes a fundamental part for us in which we invest a lot”.
Another fundamental point for Arriva Italia “is the work of coordination and involvement of competent doctors – underlined Santagata – In the company reality the competent doctor becomes a key figure in the prevention of health at work. We are working hard to try to get doctors to have a continuous synergy approach with the company and with the workers, reporting critical issues that may even go a little beyond the risks to which the workers are exposed”. Finally, on the importance of training, the HSE and RSPP manager of Arriva Italia observed: “Workers must be reminded that, when there is a pause between two more or less long static postures, they must get up, walk, get down , get off the bus. For us it is a fundamental theme. Then there are pregnant women. During the training we try to make people understand the importance of drivers informing the employer as soon as possible – she concluded – so that he can intervene to remove them from a job that can expose them to an aggravating risk”.
