Glen Campbell, BBC journalist, discovers an incurable brain tumor after hospitalization
This is the story of a journalist from BBC Scotland, who chose to tell his story to the world, to share his pain with all the people who are experiencing the same situation as him. Glen Campbell, 48 years old, was the victim of a serious accident while riding his bicycle. He miraculously survived, but within the hospital walls he discovered something even more heartbreaking.
He could have lost his life, he arrived in serious condition after that accident, but Glen Campbell managed to survive. Unfortunately, while he was hospitalized and after various medical visits, he received a heartbreaking and unexpected diagnosis: brain tumor.
The doctors chose to be honest, unfortunately there's not much hope for the journalist.
I'm not afraid of dying, but what marks me is the sadness of no longer being able to see my children.
Glen was cycling with his friends when he fell. Even though he was wearing a helmet, he suffered serious consequences. 10 fractured ribs and several bruises. He had ended up in the center of the road and was unable to drag himself far to safety. Fortunately, a passerby noticed him and traffic blockedwaiting for help.
Once in the hospital, the doctors treated him and subjected him to all the necessary tests. The journalist had strange symptoms, which could not be linked to that fall on his bike. Thus, delving into the situation of him they have discovered the sad truth.
I was told I have incurable brain cancer. I immediately decided that I wanted to try to get something positive out of such a difficult situation. Now I'm afraid I won't have the chance to grow old with my wife Claire. I'm afraid of not seeing my children become adults, of not being present at their graduations, their weddings, the birth of their children. That's what scares me, but that's what makes me even more determined to try to challenge this situation. The statistics are not at all comforting, but I want to go beyond those figures also to help brain tumor patients who will arrive after me.
The journalist has already undergone surgery and hopes that with chemotherapy and radiotherapy he will be able to gain as much time as possible to live with his beautiful family.
