The injury curse continued to haunt the Leicester City players, who will miss their veteran striker Jamie Vardy for a period of 3-4 weeks, due to his hamstring problem.
Vardy, 35, had complained of an injury during Leicester City’s loss against Liverpool on penalties in the League Cup last week at Anfield, to rest in the team’s meeting against its host Manchester City in the Premier League in the “Boxing Day” tour, but he was prejudiced On himself in the face of Leicester against his guest, Liverpool, on Tuesday in the same competition, to be injured.
And while James Maddison, the team’s playmaker, is fit after being substituted against Liverpool the day before yesterday, Leicester are still missing seven players so far.
And the British news agency (BA Media) quoted Leicester City coach Brendan Rodgers, who said, “Jamie will be absent from the team, perhaps in the next three or four weeks.”
“He has a hamstring injury, he could have fought, which he really wanted to do, but the tests came like that,” Rodgers explained.
Rodgers believes that the busy schedule of matches during the Christmas period and the additional burdens imposed on players due to the Covid-19 disease played an important role in Vardy’s injury.
The Leicester coach added: “I think it was the exhaustion of that group with the succession of matches that caused this to happen.”
“Players are not bots, people think they have to play and play matches every day of the week because they get a lot of money, and that’s not the case.”
Rodgers explained: “Vardi felt the injury in the cup match against Liverpool, as it was clear that he felt tired during the last half hour of the match.”
“We didn’t get him on over the weekend to give him maximum rest – even though he was on the bench he wasn’t able to play and last night he was in pain at the end of the game,” Rodgers revealed.
