His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, stressed that social responsibility is one of the main pillars in sustainable social development plans, which embodies the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler Dubai, in enabling a cohesive and responsible society by creating an integrated system that highlights the strategic role of the private sector to support the comprehensive development plans of the Emirate of Dubai.
This came during the meeting of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Dubai, which was chaired by His Highness, yesterday, at the headquarters of “Expo 2020 Dubai”, in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, First Deputy Chairman of the Executive Council. The Council adopted a number of policies aimed at enhancing the contribution of Emirati national companies and the private sector in the fields of social responsibility and the quality of infrastructure in the emirate.
His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said, “The adoption of institutions by the culture of social responsibility reflects the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, in achieving an integrated social system based on cooperation, serving the nation and society, and activating an effective partnership between the private and public sectors. As well as the non-profit sector, to reach a direct positive social impact.
His Highness continued, “The fields of giving are available and open to everyone, most notably the social responsibility, which constitutes a continuous covenant between companies and the society in which they grow, and development plans are completed in full cooperation and coordination with the private sector, our strategic partner, which has always had tangible contributions to the service of our society, and the efforts of its companies and institutions. In this regard, you will always be highly appreciated.”
His Highness stressed that “several institutions from the private sector have proven over many years that they are worthy of taking responsibility, and the closest example we have is the cooperation of the private sector with the Dubai government during the (Covid-19) pandemic, through the Community Solidarity Fund, in which the contributions of the private sector amounted to more than 356 One million dirhams, everyone is partners in serving the country and society, and the idea of giving is firmly established between our national companies and the private sector, and it is part of their social responsibility, as it is a sustainable institutional work that works to bring about tangible change among members of society.”
The social responsibility policy for companies and private establishments in Dubai focuses on the role of social responsibility in social and economic development, with the aim of motivating private companies to participate in community development projects.
During the development of the policy, the Community Development Authority involved stakeholders from the public and private sectors and non-profit institutions to determine their expectations. Studies of the social impact survey of these parties showed a diversity of aspects and contributions of private companies through social responsibility, and that 67% of the companies contributed in the field of education, and 63 % of companies focused their contributions on the environment, while 63% of companies’ contributions went to empowering people of determination.
With the aim of promoting and encouraging the use and provision of mass transportation, the Executive Council approved the joint mobility plan, and the supporting electric scooter policy, where the plan concerns the individual’s journey from the first mile, and then use the various means of transportation provided by the Roads and Transport Authority in the Emirate of Dubai to reach the last mile of the journey.
The joint mobility plan aims to contribute to achieving the proportion of mass and joint transport trips to about 35.5% of the total sustainable transport in the emirate until 2026.
The Roads and Transport Authority has started the trial operation of a number of initiatives that support this plan, including the use of electric scooters, as they are a convenient means of transportation for Dubai’s infrastructure.
