The Palestinian terrorist group Hamas confirmed this Tuesday (6) that it responded “with a positive spirit” to the proposal for a possible truce agreement with Israel that was mediated by Qatar and Egypt aiming at the release of Israeli hostages who are still under the control of the terrorists in the Gaza Strip.
“Hamas recently delivered its response” to Qatar and Egypt “after consulting with the group's leadership and 'resistance factions'” and “approached the proposal in a positive spirit,” the terrorist group said in a statement on the messaging app Telegram.
The response represents another step towards achieving “a comprehensive and complete ceasefire”, the terrorist group's statement said.
Hamas also “praised” the role of Egypt, Qatar and all countries that “seek to stop” what the terrorists classified as a “brutal aggression” on the enclave.
This afternoon, Qatari Foreign Minister Mohamed bin Abderrahman announced that his country's mediation team had received a “positive” response from Hamas regarding the proposed agreement for the release of hostages still held captive in Gaza.
“I would like to inform the press that we have received a response from Hamas regarding the general structure of the hostage agreement. The response includes some comments, but overall it is positive,” the minister said at a press conference in Doha with the Secretary of State from the USA, Antony Blinken.
Abderrahman, who declined to give details “given the sensitivity of the circumstances”, said he was “optimistic” that Hamas' response had been delivered to Israel.
Blinken said Washington is “analyzing” Hamas' response to the proposed deal and will evaluate it with the Israeli government during his visit to the country on Wednesday.
Although the details of the draft agreement have not been released, the latest leaked information points to the release of the 136 hostages held by Hamas, of which around 30 are already dead, for a period of 142 days in exchange for the release of more than 100 Palestinian prisoners for hostage.
However, the terrorist group demands as a starting point an “Israeli commitment” to agree to a “permanent ceasefire” to end the war, something Israel is not willing to accept.
The proposed agreement was drawn up a week ago, in Paris, the capital of France, by high-ranking officials from Israel, the United States and the main conflict mediators, Egypt and Qatar, and provides for a truce in exchange for an exchange of hostages for prisoners. Palestinians.
