“The little Mermaid” is one of the remakes of Disney and we are getting closer to seeing the result in theaters. Ariel’s return is marked by the choice of Halle Bailey as the protagonist, who will embody the popular sea creature.
The film, directed by Rob Marshall, sparked endless debate and praise for promoting diversity and representation, especially after the release of its first trailer. Recently, the actress spoke with Entertainment Weekly to thank for the opportunity and guarantee that more than one will feel identified with the story.
“With Rob he’s amazing and he just says, ‘I see you and I want to bring you into the character.’ So it was a beautiful thing. My hair, for example, incorporating my dreadlocks into red hair was something really special for me. The suit, the fins, everything. It’s just amazing. I am grateful that I was able to take my essence and mix the two,” she told the outlet.
“We all yearn for something greater. We all relate to feeling like we want something better for ourselves, and I think the strength in her is that she goes for it. She goes after what she wants and what she sees for herself, and she knows she should be somewhere else. I just admire that strength of hers, and she was really trying to implement that in this version.”
