With extensive experience in film, television and theater, the first actor Gustavo Bueno He will debut in the magical world of animated films, something that makes him quite happy, since he is a fan of that genre.
— How was the experience in A giant adventure?
— It was something I really enjoyed. The whole team, from its director, Eduardo Schuldt, have treated me very well. I give the voice to the Guardian Condor and the truth is, I am waiting with great anticipation for the premiere in theaters (scheduled for January 12), although everything has already changed.
— Are you a follower of the animated genre?
— I’m a fan of animations! I’ve seen Up, Toy Story, all of them. I’ve seen 40,000 movies, I love them. Mind you, I don’t like anime or stuff, but everything else, yes.
— What do you take away from this first experience?
— I rescue everything from this first experience and hopefully the public responds well, because, lately, after the pandemic, Peruvian cinema, no matter how good movies have been made, has marginalized itself a bit. Like two years without going to the movies, without seeing Peruvian movies, it has hurt a lot. And well, before the pandemic, movie theaters didn’t stop full either, like decades ago, but regular attendance was seen.
— Do you think that this has been the worst cost of the pandemic?
— Definitely. Now we have to recover that market, if we are not going to bring everything to the platforms, although that also favors cinema as art because on the various platforms you can see movies, some of them old, that young people have the opportunity to see. From that point of view, the platforms allow us to see Latin American, European, and Peruvian cinema, but the experience of seeing cinema in a theater is unique.
— Despite the pandemic, cinema has not stopped. There is a generation of new filmmakers and the so-called regional cinema gives great surprises.
— Yes. Every time the filmmakers are more constant and consistent. I will make a film with Paul Vega, who will direct his first film. Salvador del Solar, Angie Cepeda and another actor will be there. We have already said yes. Paul had already talked to me a while ago and I’m happy. he will produce Tondero. The script is his and it is worth risking it with a film like this. It will be his feature debut and Paul is very focused on it. It will be filmed in March. It will be a somewhat fantastic drama, it is very dreamlike, but I can’t tell you more. (The actor is referring to Astronaut, with which Vega, in 2019, was one of the winners of the National Contest for Fiction Feature Film Projects).
— What do you think of the so-called regional cinema?
Very good. For example, in Pucallpa they constantly make movies. It is a very interesting cinema with local actors. I participated in a festival and saw a very good film. Regional cinema continues to grow and festivals, for example, like the one in Trujillo, are important for this. Not everyone has a place in the Lima Festival, whose level of demand is different and it is competed at an international level. Regional cinema has its favorite genres, a kind of fantastic, horror cinema. There are very good films of the level of excellence. What I don’t know is how much the public in the regions responds to his films.
