The GT World Challenge Europe returns to Italy to celebrate its third race of the season in Misano, one of the most anticipated stages of the entire championship dedicated to Gran Turismo.
Pirelli presents itself at the event with the new Cinturato WHB wet tire which, after its debut in the Oshersleben round of the DTM at the end of April, also makes its first appearance on the GT2 of the GTWC, before being introduced in two weeks also in a 24 Hours, namely the Nürburgring, at the end of May.
A debut which, obviously, will also be on the track only in the event of rain, which is not likely at the moment, leaving the scene entirely to the P Zero DHF in the dry, which is expected to undergo a demanding test on the Misano track.
The Marco Simoncelli track with its over 4,226 meters of length to be covered in an anti-clockwise direction and its 16 curves (six on the left) is one of the most challenging in the championship due to its sinuosity and the expected high temperatures.
“We are always happy to come to Misano, for the warmth of the public and for the type of race, always tight and fascinating. For the tires it will be a good test, yet another for the DHF which so far have confirmed that they are the most appropriate technological solution for the Gran Turismo and the best allies of the BoP developed by SRO”, declared Matteo Braga, Head of Activities on the Pirelli circuit.
“The track has numerous sections that require significant decelerations with consequent high stress on the tires. This phenomenon is particularly evident when navigating some curves, in which an attempt is made to maintain the maximum possible speed, in a succession of braking and accelerations that create significant transfers of load between the rear and front axle”.
“Let’s see if the WHBs will have the opportunity to be mounted on the GT2s, a rapidly evolving class that must be kept an eye on for the interesting developments it could be the protagonist of.”

Pirelli tires at Misano
The P Zero DHF, whose latest evolution debuted last year, was developed to meet the specific needs of all GT classes on dry tracks.
Among the main features of this tire are a wide working range and a construction that optimizes the balance of the car with a better connection between front and rear.
The DHF also has greater sustainability characteristics than its predecessors. Already in the development phase, the environmental impact of the DHF has been reduced with the extensive use of virtual modeling to replace physical prototypes which have been reduced by almost 20%. The P Zero range intended for the various GT classes uses new types of renewable materials which further reduce its environmental footprint.
The Cinturato WHB, which completes the renewal of the Pirelli GT range, features a new tread design which allows the use of latest generation materials.
These new compounds, together with the increased stiffness of the tread, have improved the footprint, optimizing grip and warm-up at low temperatures, without compromising stability in transition conditions from wet to dry and sensitivity to acquaplano, which has actually increased.
In this way, the range of use of the WHB is broadened compared to the previous generation tyre.
