Porsche takes the top of the overall ranking at the end of the Free Practice of the GT World Challenge Europe, which faces the second round of the Sprint Cup of the season in sunny Misano this weekend.
The session suffered a very long interruption after about twenty minutes due to the bad accident involving Thomas Fleming at the ‘Rio’ curve.
The Ferrari #71 driven by the Briton, for reasons yet to be ascertained, went off at high speed, ending up straight into the barrier, breaking through the guardrail and being submerged by the piles of tyres; to extract the pilot it was necessary to cut the steering column and Fleming, conscious and unharmed when rescued, was first taken to the medical centre, only to then be transferred by helicopter to hospital for further checks, given the large blow.
Most of the work will now fall to the good mechanics of AF Corse, who once they have the 296 GT3 back in the pits once the session is over they will have to roll up their sleeves to rearrange a vehicle that doesn’t seem to be in good shape at all.
