Pennsylvania.- The Punxsutawney Philp groundhog has predicted six more weeks of winter in the United States emerging from its burrow this February 2, 2022 to perform its duties of the groundhog day in Pennsylvania.
Thousands of people gathered at Gobbler’s Knob, Pennsylvania, while members of Punxsutawney Phil’s “inner circle” called to him from his tree stump at dawn to see if he had seen his shadow. After Phil’s prediction was announced, the crowd repeatedly shouted “six more weeks!”.
According to tradition, spring would come early if the groundhog didn’t see his shadow.
Last year, the event was held virtually due to the coronavirus pandemic, depriving the community, which is about 65 miles (105 kilometers) northeast of Pittsburgh, of the boost tourists provide.

The event was broadcast live and at one point was watched by more than 15,000 viewers worldwide. Some 150 “cardboard” people were there to “see”.
The annual event has its origin in a German legend about a furry rodent.
According to records dating back to 1887, Phil has predicted winter more than 100 times. 10 years were lost because records were not kept, organizers said.
