State has already rejected the lawyer’s name in 2023; If approved, he will occupy the vacancy of former number 2 of the Ministry of Mines and Energy Efrain Cruz
O Ministry of Mines and Energy appointed Renato Galuppo to form the government wing in the CA (Board of Directors) of Petrobras. The formalization was sent via letter to the president of the collegiate, Pietro Sampaio Mendes, on Saturday (20 January 2024).
Galuppo had his name rejected by the state-owned company's board in 2023. At the time, the lawyer was considered ineligible for having a party affiliation with Cidadania and for not having proven experience in the state-owned company's area of activity.
The lawyer has already been considered fit for the position by the corporate governance board and the administrative board of the state-owned company. All that remains is approval from the Board of Directors.
If approved, Galuppo will arrive first for a buffer mandate. He must fill the vacancy opened by the departure of Efrain Pereira da Cruzformer executive secretary of the Ministry of Mines and Energy, who was dismissed on January 11.
The government's idea is for Galuppo to become an effective member of the CA after the ordinary general meeting, where the board members will be renewed. The meeting is scheduled for April 25, 2024.
The Petrobras Board of Directors is elected through the multiple voting system, when shareholders multiply their shares by the total number of vacancies. The multiplied shares are distributed as votes among the nominated names. As the majority shareholder, the Union is able to win the majority of directors.
