The last decision at home Google will be much discussed, but for Bloomberg it is all true. It concerns the acceptance or not of granting one’s data to theartificial intelligence. A move already made by some Meta social networks, such as Facebook and Instagram and now BigG is also adapting with a “punishment” for those who do not accept the new policy. In this period, the search engine giant has also caused controversy for another episode: a few weeks ago a judge ruled that the company violated antitrust law leading to an illegal monopoly.
What does the new search engine policy say?
According to Bloomberg, The Mountain View company has updated its data scraping policy: users can decide whether or not to offer their content to artificial intelligence. By offering them, you allow the search engine to generate automatic answers to the questions typed by users.
However, if, for example, the owners of a website refuse to make this “concession” they would see their creation penalised in the search engine results. and lose access to Googlebot, which allows indexing of web pages. It should be noted that when we talk about Google AI, we are not referring to Gemini, but to AI Overviews, the artificial intelligence used specifically for the search function.
The historic US ruling
Google has recently been the subject of a negative ruling by the United States. In early August 2024, a district judge Amit Mehta ruled as follows: “The court concludes: Google is a monopolist and has acted as such to maintain its position.” The search engine giant, according to the ruling, spent billions of dollars violating antitrust law and, therefore, have world domination.
