The Ministry of Economy, Google and Pro Mujer launched the project “Women, strength of the southeast“, in which they will give microcredits and entrepreneurship training to more than eight thousand women from Chiapas, Yucatan, Campeche, Tabasco and Oaxaca.
The idea is to promote financial inclusion and training to help women or leaders of Small and Medium Enterprises (MIPYMES) start up.
“Google, through its philanthropic arm Google.org, will grant Pro Mujer 100 million pesos, who, together with the Ministry of Economy, will allocate these funds for loans and training programs for six thousand women in the Mexican southeast during 2023 and two thousand more in the next two years,” reported the secretariat.
In her participation, the Minister of Economy, Raquel Buenrostro Sánchez, thanked Google, Google.org and Pro Mujer for their participation, pointing out that they have allowed joint work and finally link it with government activities.
“We are all very aware of generating inclusive well-being and this time we are focusing more on the Mexican southeast. What are we looking for? We seek to reduce the wage and gender gap through financial inclusion with women’s projects related to MSMEs,” said the Head of Economy.
On behalf of Google, was the Country Director of Google Mexico, Julián Coulter, who assured that the idea is to use technology to help solve some of humanity’s greatest challenges.
“In this project we combine financing, innovation and technical experience to support underserved communities and provide opportunities for all people. These efforts also allow us to bet on Mexican women, planting a seed of entrepreneurship in the communities where it is most needed “, he assured.

Finally, the CEO of Pro Mujer, Carmen Correa, said that the idea is to give women the necessary tools to reach their full potential to become agents of change in their communities.
Correa commented that 70 percent of women in that region do not have access to capital to start a business, while only 47 percent of women in Mexico manage to participate in the labor market, so they urgently see reversing said situation.
