With humor and sympathy that come from his soul, Ginés ‘Corregüela’ explains each of the steps he follows to prepare his lunches. His popularity was very evident this Wednesday in El Palmar, where he attended the 1st Original Sandwich Contest as a special guest. The Ubetense farmer had a real crowd bath in the Murcian district, where hundreds of neighbors and onlookers did not want to miss the opportunity to take a picture with him.
-How does it occur to a farmer to start posting videos on social networks?
-It is a world that I have always liked, but I never dared to take the step. It was my daughter who insisted that I record myself eating a cucumber and that was the beginning of all this.
-How does it feel to have millions of people watching your TikTok channel?
-I don’t feel famous, but I do feel proud that the whole world knows me, but above all that I make children happy -his eyes light up when he thinks of the children who ask him for selfies every day, as happened in El Palmar, where it was not enough. I feel very comfortable with them. If I make them happy like this, it is a great pride for me.
-There are many people who doubt that you eat those tremendous sandwiches…
-Depends on the day and how hungry you are. There are many, quite a few, that I do eat them whole. I would say 80%. But there are others that are authentic barbarities that, as you can understand, neither I nor anyone else can finish them. If I have something left over, they eat it at my house. I eat what I can. In no video have I said to eat them all.
-After so many sandwiches, do you have a hard time finding new recipes to continue surprising?
-Normally I don’t repeat any. I imagine them and my wife also helps me a lot, she tells me ‘well, tomorrow you can do this to yourself’. Regardless of whether I like one more or less, I do not repeat.
-An ingredient that can never be missing in your sandwiches is oil…
-The oil that soaks!
-How should a perfect oil be for a sandwich?
-I have always said that the oil has to be extra virgin. Any extra virgin oil is perfect.
-And another ingredient that you love is eggs, how many do you usually eat a day?
-I have the record in 27 eggs. I don’t eat every day, but I can usually eat a couple of dozen in a normal week.
-And the secret to a perfect sandwich? What can’t be missing?
-A good bread. A good bread is essential, although lately I buy many times at the gas station. What cannot be missing is the oil. The oil can never be missing in a sandwich.

-An issue that worries many of your followers is your state of health, how do you have cholesterol?
-That question is asked a lot, just like if I eat the sandwiches… I had a blood test two months ago and the doctor was surprised that it was below all limits. I presented the results live and said ‘there you go’. They also did a live analysis on a television program. I believe that taking the raw oil is the reason I don’t have cholesterol problems. And that I spend a lot. Every morning on an empty stomach I take a shot of crude oil, since I was 14 or 15 years old.
-What do you think of the world of haute cuisine chefs?
-Well, let’s see, what am I going to say… They are artists because they have studied and they are true ‘cracks’ who decorate the food a lot, but when I go to a restaurant like that I don’t like what they put on me because I pass out.
-Finally, I can’t help but ask you about Felipe -a twenty-kilo turkey that appears in some of the videos of Ginés ‘Corregüela’ and who has earned the affection of his followers, who are continually interested in him-. Does he already have a sentencing date or has he earned a pardon?
-No, no, Felipe has won the pardon for four years. I want him to die of old age there, in my house. Is a crack’. I published a video presenting him and in the end Felipe has become more famous than me. He is a phenomenon.
