“In 2040, cardiovascular diseases, stroke, chronic kidney disease, neurodegenerative diseases and diabetes will be among the most frequent causes of mortality, not only in Italy. For this reason it is important to invest in prevention from today because there is the so-called 'memory effect'. We must invest in correct and healthy nutrition right from pregnancy, and adopt lifestyles which by definition must also include regular physical activity. Objective: prevent pathologies and reduce mortality. We must do it today, starting from schools.” This was said by Loreto Gesualdo, president of the Fism Federation of Italian medical-scientific societies, speaking at the event 'Mediterranean diet: promoting healthy lifestyles and preserving our food heritage', promoted in Paestum on the occasion of the first National Made in Italy Day .
“The Fism – Gesualdo then recalled – has already put a lot of effort into preparing, together with the Ministry of Health, a booklet which will be distributed to all our 203 federated medical-scientific societies and therefore we are alongside the Ministry of Health and Minister Orazio Schillaci to promote all those activities that make our NHS more sustainable”.
