One person has died and four are still trapped under rubble following the partial collapse of a hotel last night in the tourist resort of Krov on the Moselle River in the western German state of Rhineland-Palatinate.
According to the reconstruction of the local police, around 11:00 pm yesterday one of the three floors of the building collapsed while 14 people were inside the structure, five of whom managed to escape unharmed. One person died, while eight were trapped, including a two-year-old child.
A total of 31 residents in the immediate vicinity have already been evacuated, while teams from the fire brigade and the German Federal Rescue Agency have intervened on site, with a total of around 250 rescuers, special forces, and dog and drone units.
In the morning, after rescue teams entered “verbal contact” with some survivors under the rubble, extraction operations began, which allowed four people to be freed, including the child. The reasons for the collapse are not yet clear.
