The material by the leader of the European People’s Party faction in the European Parliament, Manfred Weber, about Nord Stream 2 (SP-2) in the context of Ukraine drew criticism from readers. The publication was published by a German newspaper Die Welt Sunday, December 5th.
So, Weber called in the article the future government of Germany to close SP-2 in the event of a “attack” by Russia on Ukraine. According to him, the gas pipeline will come to an end if Moscow “uses weapons.”
“The price will not be paid by Putin, Mr. Weber, but the consumers in Germany. And you are also responsible for this. The rejection of nuclear energy and coal has made us addicted and vulnerable to blackmail, “- said CM user in a comment.
Norbert F. added that Germany has no chance of maintaining electricity production, and Gerhard K. pointed out that there is no need for Russia to attack Ukraine: there is no economic benefit for Moscow in this.
“Weber, as always, provides the most beautiful own goal in the European team. Such statements from a politician who does not decide anything in Germany and who has nothing to say there … should induce the CSU (Christian Social Union Party – Ed.) To offer him to resign. Those who have such members in the party do not need enemies, ”Wachsein said.
Klaus F., in turn, wondered if Weber had the right to speak on behalf of all of Germany? Moreover, he and so steadily opposed the SP-2, without any “attacks”. Werner T. stressed that Weber should speak out and act in the interests of Germany, that is, for safe energy supply, for which the country needs Nord Stream 2.
“As far as I understand, Germany should make its energy supply dependent on a country to which we are not allies and to which we do not owe anything. Germany’s policy should first of all defend the state interests, and not the West, the EU or NATO, and Nord Stream 2 meets the interests of Germany, “noted user Hans G.
On December 5, the head of the Munich Security Conference, Wolfgang Ischinger, said that it was no longer possible to stop Nord Stream 2 – it was “too late”. For Germany, however, the project remains a bone of contention, both with Ukraine and the United States.
The authorities of the German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern on December 3 supported the commissioning of the Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream 2, despite US sanctions. Prime Minister Manuela Schwezig criticized the preparation of US sanctions against the companies involved in the project. She urged not to confuse construction with foreign policy.
