There were a few accidents involving German skiers on Austria’s slopes at the weekend. A 19-year-old died from his injuries.
Tannheim/Tyrol – A skier from Germany died in a skiing accident in Tyrol on Sunday (February 12). According to the Tyrol police, the 19-year-old came off the piste at 12.45 p.m. in the Neunerköpfle ski area in Tannheim and fell into an adjacent forest. After first aid had been provided on site, the seriously injured man was flown to the hospital in Kempten in a rescue helicopter. There he succumbed to his injuries.
Another fatal skiing accident occurred in Carinthia. This is reported by the Carinthian police. At around 10 a.m., a 55-year-old from the Czech Republic fell in the Mölltal Glacier ski area and remained motionless. The resuscitation measures of the piste service and the crew of the rescue helicopter were unsuccessful, the emergency doctor could only determine the death of the ski vacationer. Since third-party negligence could not be ruled out, the Klagenfurt public prosecutor ordered an autopsy on the body.

On Sunday at around 1:50 p.m., a 30-year-old German was hit and injured by an unknown male skier in the Hochzeiger ski area in the municipality of Jerzens. The person who caused the accident was asked by the piste rescue team to ski down to the middle station. However, he flees downhill at high speed, the search initiated was unsuccessful. The accident victim was taken to the hospital in Zams by ambulance.
In the ski area at the Wilder Kaiser in the municipality of Hopfgarten/Brixental, a 23-year-old German slipped on a flat path at around 2 p.m. after a fall over the edge of the piste and fell a few meters down the adjacent steep embankment. Then he probably crashed into a snow-covered tree stump. The man suffered serious injuries. He was flown to Kufstein Hospital in a rescue helicopter.
In the Rifflsee ski area in Pitztal, an 11-year-old skier from Germany lost control of his skis around 1 p.m. and crashed into a sign. After first aid by the piste rescue service, the boy was flown by helicopter to the state hospital in Innsbruck.
Just the previous weekend (February 4th/5th) there was a series of avalanches in Austria and South Tyrol, in which several tourers were killed.
